Gemmy.png This page is a Gem. In recent years, scientists have uncovered a new species of homonid. Not much research has been done on this new species, but some things are known.

The common nickname for this species is Jannies. The scientific name is Homo sexual.

Jannies can be found in a variety of environments, but most commonly, they are found in online community forums.

Life Cycle

The life cycle of the Janny is a short one. In the wild, they struggle to compete with other animals, such as racoons. While ‘coons are far more intelligent and have a strong survival instinct, Jannies have the advantage of being able to use tools, namely in the form of removing content.

A Jannie's diet consists of two things: Aspartame sugar drinks and Hot Pockets. This diet isn't ideal for the Jannies' growth, but most Jannies are willing to do whatever it takes to satisfy their two cravings.

Jannies are very territorial, to the point that they will form small packs in more competitive environments, such as large Discord servers and online forums. In these environments, Jannies will form a crude governmental organization in order to protect their territory. When two governments fight each other, it is known as an "internet flame war".

The Jannies only natural predator is that of the human being. Jannies are often caught in "online raids" where human beings band together in order to troll and harass the Jannies. While most raids only result in a hurt ego for the Jannies, some can result in a ban for the participants, which is considered among the highest of the Jannie's victories.

In rare scenarios (not really), Jannies can become corrupted by power.

Corrupted Jannies

When a Janny is corrupted by power, he gains the trait of "Hubris." This causes the Jannie to go on a rampage of deleting content, and banning people who he feels have "wronged" him.

If left unchecked, a Hubris Janny can wipe out entire online communities. Jannies with Hubris have been known as the "bane of civilization".

While Hubris Jannies can be the bane of civilization, they can also be incredibly useful for thier ability to quickly eradicate communities. This is often what leads to the corruption and transformation of a Hubris Janny.

A Janny will usually gain the Hubris trait due to constant harassment by human beings. This leads the Jannie to become paranoid and aggressive. This is often what leads to a ban or removal of the Jannies content. A Hubris Janny will then often ban the offending person. This only leads the cycle to continue.

The only known way to stop a power-drunk Janny is for the owner of the online community to "revoke" administrative powers from the Jannie. This results in the Jannie becoming extremely angry, and they will often attempt the same attacks as before, but without the power to do so.

What Happens Then?

After a Hubris Janny has been denied by the owner of a community, it is common for the Hubris Janny to try to "get back" at the owner. This commonly takes the form of a "dox". A dox is the release or exposure of a person's private information. There are many ways in which a Janny can accomplish this.

In the wild, Jannies will go to great lengths to accomplish a dox.

While a dox is considered the apex of a Jannies destruction capabilities, it is also the most dangerous method, as the Jannie can get caught, and the Jannie's own information can be leaked.

Some Jannie's prefer other methods, such as a DDoS.

These other methods require far less risk, and still offer the Janny high success chances.

A DDoS is an acronym for "Distributed Denial of Service" which is the name of an attack.

In this attack, a Jannie floods the target with hundreds of online connections. This causes the servers of a service or website to become overloaded, often crashing or slowing the servers.

While there are many ways to stop a DDoS, most of these methods also involve a lot of technical knowledge, which the victims of a DDoS commonly do not possess.

Conclusion

The Janny’s life is short and chaotic.

While he can be a force for good on some occasions, he often finds himself corrupted by power and hubris.

And yet, despite this, there is no reason to pity the Janny. After all, it is he who creates his own prison, and he who has the key to his own cell.
